CHURROS

Churros is an extremely popular dessert in Mexico, yet it is still not so well-known in Lithuania. If you like traditional Lithuanian „Žagarėliai“ or donuts, you will definitely like these Mexican fritters. Be sure, this different and previously unseen dessert will pleasantly surprise your friends.

  • 2 large eggs
  • 30g brown sugar

1. Pour the water into a saucepan and add the chopped butter, brown sugar and salt. Bring it to a boil, then add the flour. Mix everything well and boil for one more minute over a lower heat to dry the dough a little.

2. Leave the dough to cool a little and then add the eggs, one at a time, beating until incorporated after each addition.

3. Spoon the dough into a pastry bag and fry churros in hot oil the same way as you would fry donuts – holding the pastry bag above the oil, squeeze the batter out, snipping off the desired lengths with a knife. Fry until nicely browned.

4. Roll fried churros in sugar, cinnamon and lime zest mixture.

Try churros with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce.
