Cracklings with sunflower seeds

Cracklings with sunflower seeds and fried turnips are an unexpected interpretation of an old traditional Lithuanian dish. Familiar and yet completely new tastes will astonish your friends.

Ingredients

  • Pork belly
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Salt
  • Shelled sunflower seeds
  • 1 big turnip (or a few smaller)
  • Olive oil
  • Bread
  •

Servings:4-8Level:easy

1.Grind the pork belly and fry in a pan stirring constantly until crisp. Add the chopped onion, garlic and salt. Mix everything well and continue to fry until onions soften.

2. Fry the sunflower seeds in a pan and mix together with the cooled cracklings.

3. Prepare the turnips. Drizzle them with the olive oil, sprinkle with salt and wrap in foil. Then place in the oven at 180° C for 40 minutes. If baking a bigger turnip, check if it is done and soft by inserting a knife.

4. Spread the cracklings on the grilled or toasted bread, place the sliced turnip on top and sprinkle with some salt.
